There comes a time in which differences arise. Where opinions, beliefs, and thoughts grow to such a point that they cannot be contained. It’s at this point that alliances fall through, at this point bands have disbanded, groups broken up. Now everyone thinks these things to be something drastic and negative but little does anyone think that when pushed against a corner or forced to fend for one’s self people thrive. Dwayne Johnson was a football player and after being dropped pursued acting and he’s the top paid actor in the world today. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg what do they really have in common? They either parted ways with others and thrived or others parted ways with them and missed out. A Parting of ways doesn’t mean one should hate the other or that one must end on bad terms. If anything at the simplest level it means to great opposing forces can’t be contained in the same space. It means to carve a path and which those on the other path the best. The terrain you chose may suit you but not others and hearts and minds don’t always align. I’ve always seen people baffled when someone doesn’t agree with their methods. Truthfully, I’ve had a few parting of ways in my short life but most times I’m more proud than anything. That’s because for whatever reason human nature dictates that we must prove our way to be right and so we become vested in our ideas and they become convictions. In order to prove the mettle of our convictions we fight our hardest and so what is better than 1 good idea? 2 good ideas. Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King for example both wanted the same things but their approaches were different and so they naturally had a parting of ways. What shows these men parted ways instead of having a dispute was that they not only supported each others ideas but only seeked to intervene on the others behalf when they seemed to have “lost their true direction”. Their separate efforts were both needed for black rights and anti segregation to be where it is today but their views on how to do it were indeed different. So remember a Parting of Ways need not be a bitter end.
